3rd Report (group KaMbing)

Date: 13/2/2011
It was our last session..
Comments for BOX OF the PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE module:

The participants were given a piece of paper which contained boxes for them to write down their experiences, achievements or anything in the past and present and also their expectations for the future. They took quite some time to start their task. They looked confused and not so confident with what they want to write. But, after they received some assist from the facilitator, they were able to do it by themselves. They were aware with their past and present experiences and achievement; however they were still in doubt about the future. Therefore, the adolescents need someone to guide them to achieve a good future.

Comments for STAR OF GOALS module:

This activity mainly tried to help the adolescents to clarify their goals and identify the factors that could lead to them to achieve their goals. The participants were given a paper with five stars on it. Then, they were asked to write down their goals in each star. Some of them did not have problem at all in writing the goals because they have sets of goal in their mind. They were willing to share their goals with the others. However, some of the participants still needed to be guided. Overall they were doing well and became better than before.

2nd Report (group KaMbing)

Date: 23/1/2011
Venue: RNQ

W e arrived a bit early to RNQ. While waiting for the resident of the house to come back from tuition class, we were preparing food for them. After they had their lunch and performed Zuhur prayer, we began the session.

Comments for ALKISAH module:

The participants have been given a story where a poor man (Mamat) who likes to gamble tries to save his beloved wife, Melor. The name of the characters in the story have been changed to make the story more interesting. The participants were asked to list down the characters in the story from the most good to the bad one. Throughout the story telling session, the participants gave their full attention to the story as well as to the facilitator’s instruction. This was a positive change that we can see from the participants compared to the session before. After the story has finished, the participants listed down their possible answers. Every participant was asked to present their answers. They showed active participation and volunteer to give their answer without being pointed by the facilitator. This activity was conducted to see how the participants judge people. Each participant gave different reasons why they chose their answer. It can be seen that adolescents already have the ability to differentiate between good and bad.

Comments for THE CRACK CAR module:

For the next activity, the participants were given a situation where they had to imagine that they were driving a cracked car in a heavy rain. They want to give ride to their friends, but, because of the condition of the car they only can give ride for two persons. The task was, they have to choose who are the two friends that they want to help and what are the reasons. This activity was done to see whether the participants can make firm decision or not and how they solve the problem. After giving some times, they came out with various answers. Most of them choose their best friends and siblings. When we asked how to do with the rest of their friends, they gave very creative solutions. One of the answer was they will turn back and fetch the others after send the two person home. Another solution, they give rain coat to their friends and pull them by using skateboard. It sounded funny but at least they try their best to help all their friends. From this activity, we can see that the participants have the ability to make decision based on some consideration and were able to involve in problem solving processes.

group: Lembu

Second report

Module: Me

In this module, participants need to draw 4 most valuable things to them and elaborate why they draw the picture.
Group: lembu

Pre data
-participant looked at each other and started to discuss what kind of things that they needed to draw.
-participant looked confused in which they did not know what they are interested in.
-participants were able to elaborate why they choose that kind of picture and the significant value of that picture.

Post data
-participant started to discover their interest.
-participant started to reflect and draw what they think.
-participant started to realize their abilities and weaknesses.

Module: Al Kisah

Participants reported that this is the most interesting games that they enjoy to do. In this game, they need to organize and recognize people based on the characteristics that read to them by the facilitator. In categorizing people with certain characteristics, this group did a good job where they were able to recognize logically. However, when facilitator asked the reason why they characterized those characters in the stories with those kinds of characteristics. They failed to provide good and satisfied answer. Maybe they still cannot think logically and bounded with abstract thinking.

Module: The Crack Car
Unfortunately..we couldn't complete this module due to poor time management from the group members.

First Report

First report (group: KaMbiNG)
Date: 08/01/2011
Time : 10am-1pm
Venue : RNQ
Alhamdulillah..Last Saturday we have started our program with adolescent at RNQ. Our visit was welcomed by the residents of the house. They approached us with friendly and happy face.
After having some taaruf, the participants were divided into four groups which consist of five members in each group. The groups were distributed based on animal’s names which are Lembu, Kambing, Ayam and Katak. I have facilitated Kambing’s group.
As a facilitator and an observer for this group, I have put some expectation on them. I hope that they can give full cooperation and commitment throughout the session. I also hope they are able to gain something from the activities and finally achieve the goals set for this program.
Comments for ROUND ROBIN module:
After the participants were grouped, assigned facilitator started to make ice-breaking with the group members. The participants were interviewed a little bit about their background information. However, some of them showed negative responses and seemed reluctant to share about their selves maybe due to confidentiality. It was not an easy task to build and gain trust from someone that you just met. Therefore, it was the facilitators’ task to build rapport among the group members. The participants were asked to draw three things that they like and dislike. After finishing with the drawing, each participant presented his/her drawings and the reasons why they choose those pictures. From that drawing, we could infer something about their inner thoughts, dreams, and interests and so on. At the end of ice-breaking session suddenly one of the members was crying because it was his birthday. He told us that he never celebrated his birthday and no one gives him present. We felt sorry for him because it was unexpected. If we knew it earlier, we could have prepared something for him. After that event, he did not want to participate anymore although we have coaxed him and give some counseling.

Comments for JOHARI WINDOW’s module:
In the second module, the participants were asked to write the perception towards their own selves and what others’ perception towards themselves. However, only a part of the members are really participates in the activity. Some of them uninterested to join, cannot stay sit, walking around and looking their friends from the other groups. It was very challenging to discipline adolescents. The members who participated showed difficulties in expressing their thoughts, lack of confident and took long time to finish the task. After they were done, we were discussing their result. We found that for the future, most participants wrote they did not know when they can go back to their own home. It was touching our heart. From the observation also, we found that even though they lack confident, they tried to share something about themselves.

Comments for WHO IS NURUL? Module:
The participants were asked to illustrate who is Nurul from their perspectives. However, we could not finish this module because the time constraint.
